10 Traditional Markets in N. Jakarta will Be Raided

As an effort to protect consumer from food containing borax and formalin, as many as 10 traditional markets will be raided ahead of Ramadan.

This aims to prevent hazardous food in traditional markets, like formalin, borax, and dye

Those markets are Inpres Kelapa Gading Timur, Mandiri (Kelapa Gading Sub-District), Tugu and Lontar (Koja Sub-District), Sunter Podomoro, and Sungai Bambu (Tanjung Priok Sub-District), Lokbin Rorotan and Kalibaru (Cilincing Sub-District), as well as Muara Karang and Pluit (Penjaringan Sub-District).

According to Una Rusmana, Head of North Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-Department, 19 samples of each food will be taken, starting from chicken meat, beef fatty, meat ball, nugget, sausage and beef rind. Then they would be tested through the Technical Management Unit's the Center of Animal Health, Livestock Technology and Livestock Results Testing for Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Department.

“This aims to prevent hazardous food in traditional markets, like formalin, borax, and dye,” he asserted, Friday (612).

From the raid that has been done in four markets (Mandiri, Kelapa Gading Inpres, Tugu, and Lontar in Koja Sub-District), there was not found hazardous foods. Nevertheless, the raid will continue to be done in 6 other markets in North Jakarta.

“We keep monitoring traditional markets during Ramadan. Prior to Eid ul Fitr, precisely on July 6-10, a number of traditional markets in Jakarta will be raided again,” he finished.
